A comparison of these figures obta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> the project<br />

“<strong>Muslim</strong> <strong>Life</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong>” with the data from the <strong>in</strong>tegration<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess statistics reveals that a higher proportion of those complet<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the <strong>in</strong>tegration course sat the exam<strong>in</strong>ation overall (89<br />

per cent) than <strong>in</strong> the previous year. The correspond<strong>in</strong>g figure for<br />

2007 stood at 65 per cent. This figure is to be seen <strong>in</strong> the context<br />

of the <strong>in</strong>troduction of the compulsory exam<strong>in</strong>ation. The share<br />

of students who passed the exam<strong>in</strong>ation stands at 55 per cent of<br />

all those complet<strong>in</strong>g the course and 61 per cent of exam<strong>in</strong>ees <strong>in</strong><br />

2008 (Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtl<strong>in</strong>ge 2009: 10).<br />

The lower proportion of persons sitt<strong>in</strong>g the f<strong>in</strong>al exam<strong>in</strong>ation<br />

which was established <strong>in</strong> the project “<strong>Muslim</strong> <strong>Life</strong> <strong>in</strong> Ger-
