How many <strong>Muslim</strong>s live <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong>? 91<br />

The compositions of the <strong>in</strong>dividual groups of orig<strong>in</strong> vary<br />

greatly with regard to religious affiliation. There is a disproportionately<br />

large share of <strong>Muslim</strong>s among immigrants from<br />

Turkey and North Africa and their dependents. More than 80<br />

per cent of persons of Turkish orig<strong>in</strong> are <strong>Muslim</strong>s; the figure for<br />

North Africans is 75 per cent. With a share of 1 per cent, <strong>Muslim</strong>s<br />

form a clear m<strong>in</strong>ority among persons from Central Asia/<br />

CIS. Most of the immigrants from this region of orig<strong>in</strong> and from<br />

other parts of Africa belong to a Christian religion. Persons who<br />

do not belong to any religion are particularly common among<br />

the Central Asia/CIS group of orig<strong>in</strong> and among Iranians, with a<br />

share of 38 per cent <strong>in</strong> both cases.<br />

A consideration of the composition of all <strong>Muslim</strong>s liv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong> accord<strong>in</strong>g to region of orig<strong>in</strong> reveals that a clear<br />

majority orig<strong>in</strong>ate from Turkey at 63 per cent (figure 10). At
