In the light of these f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs, the study provides evidence<br />

of the importance of ethnic, religious and denom<strong>in</strong>ational affiliation<br />

to the choice of partner.<br />

5.2.5 Residential environment, satisfaction and attachment<br />

Research <strong>in</strong>to <strong>in</strong>tegration accords great importance to<br />

the composition of the population <strong>in</strong> the area of residence, as<br />

opportunities for contact between migrants and natives arise<br />

here (Friedrich 2008: 13). Ethnic segregation cannot be assumed<br />

to derive from isolationist tendencies, however, as such segregation<br />

is frequently not attributable to the fact that migrants<br />

prefer residential areas <strong>in</strong>habited by people of the same orig<strong>in</strong>s.<br />
