new entrants, that is, persons who have migrated to <strong>Germany</strong><br />

s<strong>in</strong>ce 1 January 2005, who have attended an <strong>in</strong>tegration course<br />

stands at 66 per cent. Of those who have been liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong><br />

for a longer period, 22 per cent have taken part <strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>tegration<br />

course.<br />

The share of <strong>Muslim</strong>s among those who have attended<br />

<strong>in</strong>tegration courses stands at 39 per cent. Persons belong<strong>in</strong>g<br />

to another faith make up a share of 61 per cent. This share tallies<br />

with the results of a survey of <strong>in</strong>tegration course students<br />

which was conducted as part of a project exam<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the course<br />

of <strong>in</strong>tegration of <strong>in</strong>tegration course students (Integration Panel)<br />

(cf. Rother 2008: 26). This is surpris<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> that only immigrants<br />

from predom<strong>in</strong>antly <strong>Muslim</strong> countries were <strong>in</strong>terviewed <strong>in</strong> the<br />

project “<strong>Muslim</strong> <strong>Life</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong>”, to the exclusion of any immigrants<br />

from the EU 15 countries, the USA and Australia.<br />

Over half of all of those <strong>in</strong>terviewed <strong>in</strong> the study “<strong>Muslim</strong><br />

<strong>Life</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong>” who had attended an <strong>in</strong>tegration course<br />

orig<strong>in</strong>ate from Central Asia and CIS (58 per cent). Persons from<br />

Turkey make up the second-largest group of <strong>in</strong>tegration course<br />

students (22 per cent). The maximum share of persons from<br />

other regions attend<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>tegration courses stands at 5 per cent<br />

(figure 65).
