Among the <strong>in</strong>terviewees from predom<strong>in</strong>antly <strong>Muslim</strong><br />

countries of orig<strong>in</strong> the occupational stand<strong>in</strong>g is closely genderl<strong>in</strong>ked,<br />

as shown above. The crucial factor is school education,<br />

which correlates very closely to occupational stand<strong>in</strong>g. 67 per<br />

cent of ga<strong>in</strong>fully employed <strong>in</strong>terviewees who completed their<br />

school<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong> without any qualifications are blue-collar<br />

workers, while only 17 per cent of persons with the ‘Abitur’ university<br />

entrance level school-leav<strong>in</strong>g certificate, 46 per cent of<br />

those with the <strong>in</strong>termediate school-leav<strong>in</strong>g qualification and<br />

53 per cent of those with the secondary school-leav<strong>in</strong>g qualification<br />

are blue-collar workers. 48 per cent of ‘Abitur’ holders<br />

are white-collar workers and 34 per cent are self-employed. 44<br />
