Another difficulty encountered <strong>in</strong> extrapolat<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

number of <strong>Muslim</strong>s <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong> lies <strong>in</strong> the fact that while the<br />

number of foreign nationals liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong> from each country<br />

of orig<strong>in</strong> is known, there is no <strong>in</strong>formation on the number of<br />

Germans with a migrant background for most of the countries<br />

of orig<strong>in</strong> covered <strong>in</strong> the <strong>Muslim</strong> <strong>Life</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong> study. This<br />

means that, unlike for foreign nationals, there are no external<br />

substantiated figures provided by official statistics or other<br />

such sources for Germans with a migrant background which
