Among the <strong>Muslim</strong>s it is the Shiites who are most likely to<br />

live <strong>in</strong> areas with a predom<strong>in</strong>antly foreign population (figure<br />

83). This is most probably attributable to the persons of Iranian<br />

orig<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> this group, who possess a higher educational level<br />

than other migrant groups considered here and presumably are<br />

less likely to live <strong>in</strong> segregated residential areas on account of<br />

their better social situation. Sunnis are more likely than other<br />

<strong>Muslim</strong> groups to live <strong>in</strong> urban districts with a large proportion<br />

of foreigners (42 per cent).<br />

In the context of the hypothesis presented at the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g<br />

of this chapter that the residential environment provides a<br />

structure offer<strong>in</strong>g opportunities for contact with Germans, it is<br />
