German (6 per cent). Differences <strong>in</strong> the command of<br />

language are also apparent between the countries of<br />

orig<strong>in</strong>.<br />

The rate of participation <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegration courses among<br />

<strong>Muslim</strong> migrants is 16 per cent – approximately half as<br />

high as for non-<strong>Muslim</strong> migrants (30 per cent).<br />

Almost 40 per cent of participants <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegration<br />

courses are <strong>Muslim</strong>s. They are less likely to take a f<strong>in</strong>al<br />

exam<strong>in</strong>ation than non-<strong>Muslim</strong>s; only around a third of<br />

<strong>Muslim</strong> course participants complete the course with<br />

the “Zertifikat Deutsch”. At 91 per cent, the pass rate<br />

among <strong>Muslim</strong>s who take the f<strong>in</strong>al exam is almost as<br />

high as that of non-<strong>Muslim</strong>s.<br />

Social and identificational <strong>in</strong>tegration<br />

Resources are apparent with regard to social <strong>in</strong>tegration.<br />

The frequency of social contact with persons of<br />

German orig<strong>in</strong> is relatively high and <strong>Muslim</strong>s from all<br />

regions of orig<strong>in</strong> show a pronounced will<strong>in</strong>gness to<br />

have more contact with Germans.<br />

One <strong>in</strong> two <strong>Muslim</strong>s is a member of a German club,<br />

association or organisation. For the most part these are<br />

sports clubs, but membership of trade unions or cultural<br />

associations is also common. Most are members<br />

of a German organisation only. A smaller percentage<br />

are a member of both a German organisation and an<br />

organisation with l<strong>in</strong>ks to the country of orig<strong>in</strong>, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />

organisations founded <strong>in</strong> <strong>Germany</strong>.
