Alternative Paths<br />

One of the most outst<strong>and</strong>ing features of the Visual Dispatcher is the ease of specifying<br />

alternatives for the path a train has to take when executing a schedule.<br />

Diagram 118 shows a schedule for train movements, that begin in of the three blocks in<br />

“Hidden Yard”, proceed on the mainline in a clockwise direction, pass “Southtown”<br />

through one of the two blocks <strong>and</strong> end again in “HiddenYard”.<br />

To start the schedule, assign a train to one of the blocks in “Hidden Yard”, select the<br />

schedule on the computer screen <strong>and</strong> call the appropriate start comm<strong>and</strong> of <strong>TrainController</strong>.<br />

The Dispatcher will automatically allocate the blocks <strong>and</strong> activate the routes<br />

that belong to this schedule <strong>and</strong> will automatically start the train. If there is more than<br />

one train located in “Hidden Yard” <strong>and</strong> both can be used with this schedule, one of the<br />

trains will be selected automatically. It is also possible for you to pre-select the train before<br />

starting the schedule.<br />

The Dispatcher will also look for an appropriate path through “Southtown” <strong>and</strong> will select<br />

a block in “Southtown” as well as appropriate routes to this block, that are available.<br />

If both blocks of “Southtown” are currently available, then the Dispatcher will per-<br />
