– CAROLINE YEAGER
Described in Moving Picture World as a “drama of mining life in the
Southwest, has the atmosphere of photoplays of this type, but is
somewhat different from the usual run in several respects”. The main
“respect” is the vivacious Miss Gill and her luminous screen presence.
However, all that remains of her well received performance is this short
fragment. Preserved and printed 2005. – CAROLINE YEAGER
Unseen Cinema, a set of 7 DVDs containing 155 films, totalling 1200
minutes (20 hours), reveals hitherto unknown accomplishments of
American filmmakers working in the United States and abroad, from the
invention of cinema until World War II, and offers an innovative and often
controversial view of experimental film as a product of avant-garde
artists, professional directors, and amateur movie-makers working
collectively and as individuals at all levels of film production. Many of the
films have not been available since their creation, some have never been
screened in public, and almost all have been unavailable in copies as good
as these until now. Sixty of the world’s leading film archive collections have
cooperated with Anthology Film Archives to bring this long-neglected
period of film history back to life for modern audiences. For more
information, see the website www.unseen-cinema.com.
