to adjudge, and you shall adjudge, your letters and censures<br />

on any matters or cases that may come up and which it may<br />

be necessary to adjudge; they shall be obeyed, fulfilled,<br />

and executed as letters and censures <strong>of</strong> our judge and Inspector<br />

G-eneral. [You are empowered] to investigate any matters<br />

or causes that may be presented through any channel or in<br />

any manner whatsoever until they have been definitely concluded.<br />

(In matters that may come up concerning the Inquisition<br />

[S anto <strong>of</strong>ficiO ]^ you shall file any charge or charges<br />

deemed advisable; after they are filed, you shall <strong>for</strong>ward<br />

them to us closed and sealed.) In everything else stated<br />

above, in each item and portion there<strong>of</strong>, we do hereby<br />

grant you full power, together with all those ^ powers j dependent,<br />

incident, and annexed thereto, according to and as<br />

required by law in such cases. [We further e;npower you ] to<br />

appoint and take with you on the a<strong>for</strong>esaid vi'sitation one<br />

alguacil , one fiscal , one notary, and one interpreter provided<br />

that, in their appointment, you observe the <strong>for</strong>m required<br />

by law in such cases. For the work that you and<br />

your <strong>of</strong>ficials must per<strong>for</strong>m, as stated above, we hereby<br />

order that, out <strong>of</strong> court costs and proceeds derived from<br />

judgments in addition to any standard rates, you shall<br />

earn and receive a salary <strong>of</strong> two pesos de minas <strong>for</strong> each<br />

day you may be engaged in this visitation; the notary<br />

(Shall receive] one peso de mina; the fiscal , one peso de<br />

tipuzque ; and the interpreter, one peso de tipuzque . In<br />

witness where<strong>of</strong> we hereby order given you, and we do give<br />

you, the present commission, signed with our names and<br />

sealed with our seal, and countersigned by our secretary,<br />

which commission we hereby decree to be valid <strong>for</strong> such time<br />

as it shall be our will. Given in Mexico City on the second<br />

day <strong>of</strong> the month <strong>of</strong> April, fifteen hiindred and sixty-nine.<br />
