2. Expressions with special meanings . In addition<br />

to the standardized words, phrases, and expressions<br />

listed above, there are a number <strong>of</strong> words and expressions<br />

which have been found in the context <strong>of</strong> certain documents<br />

to call <strong>for</strong> special meaning not usually given in<br />

dictionaries. Furthermore, some <strong>of</strong> these expressions are<br />

not defined at all in the standard <strong>Spanish</strong> dictionaries.<br />

The list is given below:<br />

abrevadero — watering place <strong>for</strong> cattle<br />

acomodar medicinas — to compound medicines<br />

acta de juramento — oath <strong>of</strong> allegiance<br />

agregado — new settler<br />

agua celeste, agua pluvial — rain water<br />

agua pr<strong>of</strong>uente — running water<br />

agua viva — spring water (flowing)<br />

agua diurna — water flowing during the day only<br />

agua nocturna — water flowing during the night only<br />

agua perenne — water that flows day and night \inceasingly<br />
