The lists <strong>of</strong> letters presented in the following pages<br />

may serve to identify individual letters used in Spain<br />

and her colonies from the twelfth through the nineteenth<br />

centuries. Lists numbers 1, 2, and 3 were taken from<br />

Manual de Paleograf fa Diplomdtica de los Siglos XII al<br />

XVII hy Don Jesiis Mun6z y Rivero. The letters shown in the<br />

other lists were traced from original manuscripts in the<br />

<strong>Spanish</strong> Archives [Bexar Archives) .<strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

Texas "by tracing a complete alphabet <strong>for</strong> every tenth year<br />

from 1750 to 1850.<br />
