3. Abbreviations, a. Classification <strong>of</strong> abbreviations.<br />

There are three general signs <strong>of</strong> an abbreviation in <strong>Spanish</strong>;<br />

the period, the dash, and superscript letters: In more<br />

modern documents, especially commercial correspondence, the<br />

dash has sometimes been modified to the slant (/) on the<br />

typewriter. Abbreviations are <strong>for</strong>med in the following ways:<br />
