they might teach this will <strong>of</strong> God to their children and to their race<br />

after them. And although some difference was made between the<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Moses and the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Aaron when the written law was<br />

rjiven to the children <strong>of</strong> Israel : nevertheless we learn from their<br />

brotherhood, and from the care which Moses took <strong>of</strong> it, that he not<br />

only cared for the worldly things, but that he concerned himself<br />

more about the divine law being kept purely among the people<br />

than about v/orldly matters.<br />

And this appears clearly in the rebuke which he gave to Aaron<br />

and to the whole people, when he saw the honour they gave to the<br />

golden calf which tliey made against the will <strong>of</strong> God, at the time<br />

when he broke the two tables on which were written the ten commandments<br />

by the finger <strong>of</strong> the Almighty God, and Moses inflicted<br />

very sore punishment on them on that account. <strong>The</strong> judges<br />

and believing kings <strong>of</strong> Israel understood that which we now say,
