for you have preferred that which the Divine gospel has shown to<br />

you to the greatness <strong>of</strong> the ancient fame, and the old customs which<br />

you have heard were followed by your honourable ancestors who preceded<br />

you, speaking <strong>of</strong> the holy king Hezekiah (Josiah ?), who was a<br />

youth when he obtained the kingdom. What he did was to take<br />

the holy book into his hand, viz., the testimony in which is the<br />

will <strong>of</strong> God, and to make it known to the people, and to make the<br />

prophets and the priests through the grace <strong>of</strong> God to make it<br />

known to the children <strong>of</strong> Israel, and to expel by its means the corrupt<br />

law which the covetous priests gave in place <strong>of</strong> the law <strong>of</strong><br />

God, in order to establish and increase their own worldly<br />

power, through vain ignorance by the counsel <strong>of</strong> Satan, viz.,<br />

the evil spirit who is the enemy <strong>of</strong> the kingdom <strong>of</strong> Christ,<br />

without looking to the evil that might follow on that account.<br />

Moses did not consider the danger v\'hen he liiidertook at<br />

God's command to lead the children <strong>of</strong> Israel out <strong>of</strong> Egypt,
