VIII. GRIEVANCE CELL:<br />
NHPC has its own internal Grievance Redressal<br />
Machinery for expeditious redressal <strong>of</strong> grievances <strong>of</strong><br />
the general public as well as its own employees.<br />
The functioning <strong>of</strong> the machinery is monitored<br />
periodically to ensure efficacy <strong>of</strong> the system.<br />
The Grievance Redressal Machinery is given extensive<br />
publicity among the employees and members <strong>of</strong> the<br />
public and all possible efforts are made to ensure<br />
expeditious redressal <strong>of</strong> the grievances as and when<br />
received. A monthly and quarterly report / return on<br />
redressal <strong>of</strong> public grievances are being sent regularly<br />
to the <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong>.<br />

IX. R&D Activities<br />
1. National R&D Project<br />
(i) Development <strong>of</strong> Silt Resistant Material for<br />
Turbines <strong>of</strong> Hydro Generators<br />
NHPC is participating in conjunction with IITs & CPRI<br />
Bangalore, in National R&D Project for development<br />
<strong>of</strong> Silt Resistant Material for elongation <strong>of</strong> service<br />
life <strong>of</strong> underwater components for which NML<br />
(National Metallurgical Laboratory) Jamshedpur is<br />
the lead agency. The Proposal has been approved<br />

Uri-II <strong>Power</strong> Station (J&K) Tunnel under Const.<br />
by the Standing Committee <strong>of</strong> Govt. <strong>of</strong> India on<br />
R&D in its 9th Meeting held on 28th June 2005 at<br />
CEA New Delhi. NHPC’s share is Rs. 1.00 crore.<br />
(ii) Thermal Spray coating for improvement <strong>of</strong><br />
in-service life for Hydro <strong>Power</strong> Generating<br />
Components<br />
NHPC is the lead agency for National R&D Project<br />
for development <strong>of</strong> hard coatings for elongation<br />
<strong>of</strong> service life <strong>of</strong> underwater components. The<br />
Proposal has been approved by the Standing<br />
Committee <strong>of</strong> Govt. <strong>of</strong> India on R&D in its 9th<br />
Meeting held on 28th June 2005 at CEA New Delhi.<br />
NHPC’s share is Rs. 1.00 crore.<br />
2. Development <strong>of</strong> Geothermal <strong>Power</strong><br />
NHPC being the Nodal Agency for Exploration <strong>of</strong><br />
Geothermal Energy has already carried out the ranking<br />
studies with cooperation <strong>of</strong> International Consultant/<br />
Contractor viz. M/s Geotherm Ex, USA. Six most<br />
promising geothermal fields were identified in order <strong>of</strong><br />
following ranking :-<br />
• Tattapani in Chattisgarh,<br />
• Puga in J&K,<br />
• Cambeygraben in Gujarat,<br />
• Manikaran in HP,<br />
• Surajkund in Jharkhand<br />
• Chhumathang in J&K.<br />
Work is being pursued on these projects. Recently a<br />
team comprising representative <strong>of</strong> various power utilities<br />
including NHPC and Pr<strong>of</strong>. D. Chandra Shakhram, IIT,<br />
Mumbai & Chairman <strong>of</strong> M/s Geo Syndicate <strong>Power</strong> Pvt.<br />
