DVC<br />
The population <strong>of</strong> the villages in and around the projects<br />
belongs to mainly SC, ST, OBC and minority category. For<br />
their socio-economic development programmes in villages<br />
located within a radius <strong>of</strong> 10 Kms., Social Integration<br />
Programme was launched from 1981.<br />
At present SIP schemes are implemented in 375 villages<br />
spread over in 8 districts <strong>of</strong> Jharkhand and West Bengal.<br />
The thrust areas <strong>of</strong> the programme are socio-economic<br />
development and infrastructural (basic amenities)<br />
development.<br />
An amount equivalent to 2% <strong>of</strong> the preceding year’s net<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>it <strong>of</strong> the Corporation is allocated for implementing<br />
different activities under SIP. The fund allocated for SIP is a<br />
non-lapsable fund. An amount <strong>of</strong> Rs.887.10 lakh has been<br />
allocated in the year 2005-06, out <strong>of</strong> which Rs.371.24 lakh<br />
has been spent upto November, 2005.<br />
Under self-employment programme schemes such as<br />
development <strong>of</strong> piggeries, goat farming, poultry, fisheries<br />
etc. are also being taken up.<br />
Besides, 40 villages were electrified by DVC through State<br />
Electricity Boards incurring an expenditure <strong>of</strong> Rs. 198.56<br />
lakh upto 2004-05 on this scheme. In the year 2005-06,<br />

an amount <strong>of</strong> Rs.6.25 lakh has been spent till November<br />
against budget allocation <strong>of</strong> Rs.75 lakh.<br />
One SC/ST Cell at DVC HQ exists since long with the<br />
following objectives:<br />
(i) to ensure due compliance <strong>of</strong> the GOI orders in respect<br />
<strong>of</strong> reservation <strong>of</strong> SCs and STs;<br />
(ii) prompt disposal <strong>of</strong> the grievances <strong>of</strong> these category<br />
<strong>of</strong> employees;<br />
(iii) consolidate the statistical data related to SC/ST<br />
community;<br />
(iv) to keep liaison between <strong>Ministry</strong>/department and SC/<br />
ST Association and supply <strong>of</strong> required information;<br />
(v) to monitor special recruitment drives conducted by<br />
Corporation for filling up the vacancies.<br />
The programmes and facilities applicable in respect <strong>of</strong> SC/<br />
ST and OBC are as well equally extended to the minority<br />
communities residing in the adjacent villages. The facilities<br />
for pursuing their cultural and literary interests are also<br />
provided to them. More so, the Projects around which<br />
Minority Community people are in large number, Urdu<br />
Mazlis have been set up, aided and maintained by DVC<br />
which caters cultural need <strong>of</strong> Minority Community.<br />
