MINISTRY OF POWER<br />

The overall commercial loss (without subsidy) <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Utilities was Rs. 27.069 crores during 2001-02 and was<br />

expected to reach Rs. 40,000 crores by 2005-06 as per the<br />

estimates <strong>of</strong> World Bank, were Rs. 22,126 crores during<br />

2004-05. 11 states namely, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh,<br />

Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab,<br />

Pondicherry, Sikkim and West Bengal have earned cash<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>it (revenue and subsidy on realised basis). The States<br />

which are still incurring heavy loss are Uttar Pradesh,<br />

Jharkhand, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, Delhi,<br />

Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.<br />
