APPELLATE TRIBUNAL FOR ELECTRICITY<br />
Under the provisions <strong>of</strong> the Electricity Act, 2003 the<br />
Appellate Tribunal for Electricity has been set up at Delhi to<br />
hear appeals against the orders <strong>of</strong> the adjudicating <strong>of</strong>ficer<br />
or the appropriate Commission under the Act. Appeals<br />
against orders <strong>of</strong> the Tribunal lie before the Supreme<br />
Court <strong>of</strong> India.<br />
2. The Appellate Tribunal consists <strong>of</strong> a Chairperson and<br />
three Members. In accordance with provisions <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Electricity Act, 2003, every Bench <strong>of</strong> the Tribunal constituted<br />
by the Chairperson includes at least one Judicial Member<br />
and one Technical Member. Chairperson <strong>of</strong> the Tribunal is<br />
also a Judicial Member<br />
3. Chairperson <strong>of</strong> the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity<br />
has constituted four Benches. All the four Benches will<br />
exercise jurisdiction over the whole <strong>of</strong> India, except for the<br />
State <strong>of</strong> J&K.<br />
4. The first Chairperson <strong>of</strong> the Tribunal, Justice Shri Anil<br />
Dev Singh assumed <strong>of</strong>fice on 13th May, 2005. The other<br />
Members <strong>of</strong> the Tribunal are Justice Shri E.Padmanabhan<br />
(Judicial Member), Shri H.L. Bajaj (Technical Member) and<br />
Shri A.A. Khan (Technical Member). The Members have<br />
also assumed their <strong>of</strong>fices on 13.05.2005.<br />
5. The <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the Tribunal is located at Core-4, 7th Floor,<br />
SCOPE Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The Tribunal has<br />
become operational from 21st July, 2005 and has started<br />
to hear appeals. As on 31.01.2006, 235 nos. <strong>of</strong> appeals<br />
have been registered. 10 appeals have been disposed <strong>of</strong>f<br />
by the Tribunal.
