units each at Ganguwal and Kotla <strong>Power</strong> Houses has<br />
already been completed. Renovation, Modernization and<br />
Upgradation <strong>of</strong> all the six units <strong>of</strong> 60 mega watt to 66 mega<br />
watt <strong>of</strong> Pong <strong>Power</strong> House has already been completed<br />
which has resulted in additional capacity <strong>of</strong> 36 mega watt<br />
increasing the installed capacity from 360 mega watt to<br />
396 mega watt.<br />
BBMB plans to undertake the Renovation, Modernization<br />
and Upgradation works <strong>of</strong> Bhakra Left Bank <strong>Power</strong> House<br />
machines (5x108 mega watt) which have been in operation<br />
for the last about 40 years. All the five units are proposed<br />
to be uprated from 108 mega watt to 126 mega watt<br />
each. The Renovation, Modernization and Upgradation<br />
<strong>of</strong> Bhakra Left Bank <strong>Power</strong> House is expected to provide<br />
additional capacity <strong>of</strong> 90 mega watt to the system and is<br />
expected to generate additional 88 million units annually<br />
due to improved efficiency. This work shall be carried out<br />
in XI plan.<br />
One unit each <strong>of</strong> Ganguwal and Kotla <strong>Power</strong> Houses which<br />
were supplied by M/S Hitachi, Japan, have been planned<br />
for Renovation, Modernization and Upgradation. With the<br />
proposed Renovation, Modernization and Upgradation <strong>of</strong><br />
Dehar <strong>Power</strong> Plant<br />

one machine each at Ganguwal and Kotla <strong>Power</strong> Houses,<br />
the derated capacity <strong>of</strong> the machines shall be uprated<br />
by 4.44 mega watt and will also result in additional<br />
annual generation <strong>of</strong> 36 million units. During renovation,<br />
replacement <strong>of</strong> major components like runner, governor,<br />
stator, unit transformer and other associated equipment<br />
is envisaged. The work on this scheme has already been<br />
undertaken and is expected to be completed in the year<br />
2006-07.<br />
The Renovation, Modernization and Upgradation work<br />
on the old <strong>Power</strong> Houses has given new lease <strong>of</strong> life to<br />
the machines and is a significant step towards meeting<br />
the aspirations <strong>of</strong> the Nation for adding low cost peaking<br />
power to the system through Renovation, Modernization &<br />
Uprating <strong>of</strong> old power houses as per the National Hydro<br />
Policy.<br />
UPKEEP OF DAMS AND HYDEL CHANNELS<br />
The upkeep <strong>of</strong> Dams and Hydel Channels by Bhakra Beas<br />
Management Board has been <strong>of</strong> high standards, which<br />
are considered the benchmarks for other hydro projects<br />
in the region. Monitoring <strong>of</strong> the health and behaviour <strong>of</strong><br />
dams with the help <strong>of</strong> instruments installed in and around<br />
