MINISTRY OF POWER<br />
C NTPC Hydro Limited (NHL).: NTPC has formed a<br />
wholly owned subsidiary company for taking up small<br />
hydro projects <strong>of</strong> capacity up to 250 MW. NHL has<br />
entered into a Memorandum <strong>of</strong> understanding with<br />
the Government <strong>of</strong> Uttaranchal for development <strong>of</strong><br />
162 MW Lata-Tapovan Hydel Project and with the<br />
Government <strong>of</strong> West Bengal for implementation <strong>of</strong> 90<br />
MW Rammam Stage-Ill, subject to techno-economic<br />
viability.<br />
9.0 CONSULTANCY SERVICES : The Consultancy<br />
Wing (CW) <strong>of</strong> NTPC Ltd. has surpassed all previous<br />
records in order bookings and has secured 55 Orders<br />
valued at Rs. 187.86 Crores as on 30/11/2005. This<br />
Wing has bagged its largest ever single order, <strong>of</strong><br />
Rs. 55 crore, from Konaseema Gas <strong>Power</strong> Ltd. for<br />
O&M Management services for 445 MW CCPP at<br />
Devarpalli, A.P for a period <strong>of</strong> ten years. Currently,<br />
it is involved with providing consultancy for projects<br />
totaling approximately 22,250 MW and major orders<br />
received are related to:<br />
• O&M Management systems<br />
• Project Management & Construction supervision<br />
A policy was framed to conduct computer simulated<br />
business games competition across the company<br />
named “Business Minds”. A Total <strong>of</strong> 166 teams<br />
participated in the competition.<br />
The orientation program <strong>of</strong> the Executive Trainees<br />
selected commenced with inauguration by Minister<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong>, Govt. <strong>of</strong> India and other VIPs from Central<br />
<strong>Power</strong> Sector. This was followed by a gala get-together<br />
<strong>of</strong> all the inductees with CMD, Directors & other senior<br />
executives & their families. This has been a great<br />
integrator <strong>of</strong> new entrants to the family <strong>of</strong> NTPC.<br />
Benchmarking Activity was taken up from 2003 in HR.<br />
In the year 2004-2005, 04 areas were benchmarked<br />
and the recommendations are being implemented,<br />
these areas are:<br />
a. Training impact assessment and adoption <strong>of</strong><br />
Training evaluation Model.<br />
b. Leadership Development Model & Systems<br />
c. Executive Recruitment Systems & Processes<br />
d. Customer Orientation in HR Systems &<br />
Processes.<br />
For all these benchmarking projects world class<br />
companies like GE, ICICI, Wipro, TISCO, ONGC,<br />
INFOSYS, ITC, HDFC, TATA TELECOM, Bharati<br />
Telecom, Aditya Birla group etc were taken as<br />
benchmark partners.<br />
During the year the Leadership Development initiative<br />
called Leads was also launched. All AGMs and<br />
GMs were covered in leads centre-Assessment and<br />
Development centers wherein their competencies<br />
were assessed through multiple exercises by multiple<br />
external assessors. The Leads circle-3600 assessment<br />
is presently on-going for EDs and GMs. The Leads<br />
system has been launched with a view <strong>of</strong> developing<br />
the future leaders <strong>of</strong> the organization from within.<br />
10.0 REHABILITATION & RESETTLEMENT : NTPC<br />
is committed to help the populace displaced for<br />
execution <strong>of</strong> its projects and has been making efforts to<br />
improve the Socio-economic status <strong>of</strong> Project Affected<br />
Persons (PAPs). In line with its social objective, the<br />
company has focused on effective resettlement and<br />
rehabilitation (R&R) <strong>of</strong> PAPs and also community<br />
development works in and around the projects.<br />
During the year “NTPC Resettlement and Rehabilitation<br />
Policy” was revised in June 2005 in light <strong>of</strong> experience<br />
and learning gained over the last 25 years in the<br />
field <strong>of</strong> Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) and<br />
aligning with GOI “National Policy on Resettlement<br />
and Rehabilitation for Project Affected Families-2003<br />
(NPRR-2003)” after an intensive consultation exercise<br />
with various stakeholders including representatives<br />
from the Government, international financing institutes<br />
and sister PSUs.<br />
Implementation <strong>of</strong> approved Rehabilitation Action<br />
Plans (RAPs) for Anta-ll, Koldam, Sipat and Barh<br />
projects is in progress. Socio-Economic Survey<br />
(SES) for North Karanpura, Nabinagar, Loharinag-<br />
Pala, Tapovan Vishnugad and Unchahar Stage-Ill has<br />
been completed. Formulation <strong>of</strong> Rehabilitation Action<br />
Plan for additional ash dyke for Talcher-Thermal,<br />
Unchahar Stage-Ill and Loharinag-Pala projects is<br />
under progress. SES for Pipavav, Korba Stage-Ill and<br />
Pakri Barwadih mining project is Likely to be awarded<br />
by March 2006. Further, Social Impact Evaluation<br />
(SIE) for Simhari project where R&R activities have<br />
been completed is likely to be awarded during this<br />
financial year to evaluate the impact <strong>of</strong> R&R activities<br />
undertaken by NTPC.<br />
11.0 CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY : NTPC<br />
brought out its Corporate Social Responsibility -<br />
Community Development (CSR - CD) Policy in July<br />
2004 for expanding its horizon and social vision to
