Children participating in the painting competetion for Energy Conservation Day 2005<br />
programs .In one <strong>of</strong> the voluntary initiatives, the Bureau<br />
established seven sector specific task forces for Aluminium,<br />
Cement, Chlor-Alkali, Fertilizer, Pulp & Paper, Petrochemical<br />
& Refinery and Textile Sectors. The formation <strong>of</strong> task forces<br />
is helped in information exchange on best practices in<br />
energy conservation among the task force members. BEE<br />
also organized workshops, programmes and provided<br />
faculty support on the issue <strong>of</strong> spreading awareness on<br />
energy conservation and energy efficient technologies.<br />
In another voluntary initiative, <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong> and Bureau<br />
<strong>of</strong> Energy Efficiency are coordinating the implementation<br />
<strong>of</strong> energy audits study in 9 Government Buildings<br />
including Rashtrapati Bhawan, Prime Minister Office, Rail<br />
Bhawan, Delhi Airport, Sanchar Bhawan, Shram Shakti<br />
Bhawan, Transport Bhawan, AIIMS etc. through Energy<br />
Service Company (ESCO) route. Implementation <strong>of</strong><br />
energy efficiency measures in Rashtrapati Bhawan has<br />
been completed and is currently under progress in Shram<br />
Shakti Bhawan & Transport Bhawan. BEE also launched<br />
Small Group Activity focused on energy conservation in<br />
4 industrial units in textile and cement sector. Feed back<br />
received from the units indicated that about 5 % savings<br />
through housekeeping and no cost measures is possible<br />
through this concept. Small group activity is planned to be<br />
expanded to cover more sectors.<br />
On the mandatory provisions front, Bureau has taken a proactive<br />
role in establishing a proper energy management<br />
system in the country. In this connection, Bureau has<br />
conducted the First & Second National certification<br />
examination for energy managers & energy auditors in<br />
May 2004 and May 2005 and prepared second edition <strong>of</strong><br />
guidebooks for the energy pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. The response to
