The Corporation has faithfully implemented the Govt. directives to take care <strong>of</strong> the interests <strong>of</strong> Scheduled Castes,<br />

Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes. For monitoring the same, POWERGRID has nominated Liaison Officers<br />

in the Corporate Centre and Regional Establishments. Appropriate funds have been earmarked for the welfare <strong>of</strong> the<br />

SC/ST community and a number <strong>of</strong> welfare schemes have been implemented in the SC/ST populated villages near its<br />

NTPC<br />

NTPC Ltd., as a company, is committed to promote<br />

the interest <strong>of</strong> SCs/STs/OBCs and to improve their<br />

representation in the services. It is the policy <strong>of</strong> the<br />

company to address their concerns with ultimate objective<br />

<strong>of</strong> powering India’s growth. The major efforts made by the<br />

company in this direction are :<br />

> The company has launched six special recruitment<br />

drives from 1989-90 to 1996.These were discontinued<br />

from 1997 as per Government instructions. However,<br />

the same has been restored since July 2000. NTPC<br />

has again launched five special recruitment drives<br />

during the period from July 2000 to Nov 2005.<br />

> So far company has recruited 836 SCs and 402 STs<br />

through above 11 special recruitment drives.<br />

> The company has taken following steps for widely<br />

circulating reserved vacancies:<br />

• Advertisement/notifications in areas with<br />

predominant SCs / STs population.<br />

• Circulation <strong>of</strong> vacancies to recognized accredited<br />

SCI ST associations.<br />

> NTPC’s special scheme for the Socio-Economic<br />

Development <strong>of</strong> SCs and STs are:<br />

• Resettlement and Rehabilitation Programme.<br />

• NTPC Corporate Social Responsibility Community<br />

Development (CSR-CD) policy.<br />

• Scholarships to SC and ST students pursuing :<br />

a) Degree/ Diploma in Engineering Course @<br />

Rs. 1500/- p.m./ Rs.600/-p.m. respectively.<br />

b) Full time MBA / PGMBM Course @ Rs.1500/p.m.<br />

> The number <strong>of</strong> scholarships have been increased<br />

from 20 to 30 for SC/ ST students pursuing degree in<br />

engineering.<br />

> NTPC Gold Medal instituted for SC/ST students<br />

pursuing Personnel Management Course and Rural<br />

Development Course at XISS, Ranchi and XIMB,<br />

Bhubaneshwar.<br />
