April ‘05 - February ‘06 in current financial year has<br />

been 73% against 73.8% in the corresponding period<br />

<strong>of</strong> last year.<br />

100,000 MW Thermal Initiative<br />

To accelerate the hydro power development, 50,000 MW<br />

hydro electric initiative was launched by Hon’ble Prime<br />

Minister <strong>of</strong> India on May 24, 2003. keeping in view the<br />

huge power generation capacity requirement, <strong>Ministry</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong>/CEA has proposed 1,00,000 MW environment<br />

friendly Thermal initiative.<br />

• The PLF <strong>of</strong> central generating stations has improved<br />

to 81.5% during April ‘05 - February ‘06 from 80.7%<br />

during corresponding period <strong>of</strong> previous year.<br />

CEA has identified shelf <strong>of</strong> sites for thermal power projects<br />

totaling to about 88,000 MW capacity. Further sites are<br />

being identified through studies by CMPDI & NRSA to<br />

achieve 1000,000 MW capacity addition in the next ten<br />

years. Out <strong>of</strong> this shelf about 47,000 MW projects are<br />

to be taken up for implementation during 11th Plan and<br />

remaining projects during 12th Plan.
