extremely low inflows at the hydro stations due to failure <strong>of</strong><br />

rains and less snowfall in the catchment area. During the<br />

current year 2005-06, the generation from the BBMB <strong>Power</strong><br />

Houses has been 9566 Million Units up to 30.12.2005<br />

against the target <strong>of</strong> 8853 Million Units. Generation <strong>of</strong> 11535<br />

Million Units has been anticipated up to 31st March,2006<br />

against the annual target <strong>of</strong> 10802 million units fixed by<br />

Central Electricity Authority, Government <strong>of</strong> India. The Plant<br />

availability <strong>of</strong> BBMB <strong>Power</strong> Stations during 2005-06 (up to<br />

December 2005) has been 92.18%. The <strong>Power</strong> generation<br />

at BBMB <strong>Power</strong> houses is being evacuated through BBMB<br />

<strong>Power</strong> evacuation system running into 3735 circuit kilo<br />

metres length <strong>of</strong> 400 Kilo Volts, 220 Kilo Volts, 132 Kilo<br />

Volts and 66 Kilo Volts transmission lines and 24 Extra<br />

High Voltage Sub-stations. The Bhakra Beas Management<br />

Board <strong>Power</strong> evacuation system operates in an integrated<br />

manner in the Northern Grid with its transmission network<br />

spreading over the States <strong>of</strong> Himachal Pradesh, Punjab,<br />

Haryana and Delhi. The system is interconnected with<br />

transmission system <strong>of</strong> POWERGRID and the States<br />

<strong>of</strong> Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi. The availability<br />

<strong>of</strong> transmission system during the year 2005-06 (up to<br />

December 2005) has been 98.20%.<br />

IRRIGATION<br />

At the time <strong>of</strong> partition <strong>of</strong> India, about 80% <strong>of</strong> the irrigated<br />

area <strong>of</strong> Punjab went to West Pakistan leaving India with very<br />

meagre irrigation resources. The mighty Bhakra- Nangal<br />

and Beas Projects changed the scenario and turned<br />

Northern India into Granary <strong>of</strong> the Nation. The Bhakra<br />

Nangal and Beas Projects have not only brought Green<br />

Revolution in the States <strong>of</strong> Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan,<br />

but also White Revolution by way <strong>of</strong> record production <strong>of</strong><br />

milk. The North Western region <strong>of</strong> the Nation has turned<br />

into Granary <strong>of</strong> the Nation. The States <strong>of</strong> Punjab, Haryana<br />

and Rajasthan are being supplied on an average about 28<br />

millon acre feet <strong>of</strong> water per year which irrigates one crore<br />

25 lac acres <strong>of</strong> land.<br />

RENOVATION, MODERNISATION AND UPRATING<br />

(RM&U)<br />

All the five units <strong>of</strong> Bhakra Right Bank <strong>Power</strong> Houses,<br />

which were commissioned during the year 1966 to 1968,<br />

have been uprated from original capacity <strong>of</strong> 120 mega<br />

watt to 157 mega watt each.<br />
