A Gemcitabine based liposomal formulation for treatment of cancer and a process for preparing the same is disclosed, wherein
said formulation comprises a lipid mixture, gemcitabine and optionally a folate ligand. Further, the lipid mixture comprises
Hydrogenated soy phosphatidylcholine, cholesterol, and Digalactosyl diacylglycerol or Distearoylphosphatidylethanolamine. The
molar ratio of Gemcitabine: lipid mixture is in the range of 1:4 to 1:6.
