(57) Abstract :
The preset invention relates a support plate device for a packed column having counter current flowing gas and liquid comprising
a base plate; a series of parallel gas risers extending upwardly from said base plate to enable the gas to flow upwardly
therethrough, with each gas riser containing a number of openings; a series of orifices on the base plate to enable the down
flowing liquid to flow therethrough; and wherein the openings in each gas riser is provided with cover members to prevent
downflowing liquid from entering the gas riser. .
