Southern Staying understands how difficult the decision is that has to be made and wish the decision makers good luck. May the decision not rip the community apart and may the Lord bless the people of this area. All previous detailed comments/objections are still relevant. It looks like the developers want to change the entire coastline of South Africa and change every harbour into a waterfront, this is enough. The developer wants the building and is unlikely to deliver the promises he has made. It will be simple to collapse any concessionary agreement between the developer and the community a couple of years down the road. Struisbaai is a community with a difference. It brings residents and visitors into close proximity with the magnificent coastline and the wildlife it supports. It is a reasonably safe community to visit and to raise children in, the developer wants to change that. Noted. Please refer to the FEIR for further information. Noted. Noted. My opinion is that the Agulhas/Overberg region is successfully marketed as a natural unspoilt coastline area, which I think needs to be preserved as such and that a four storey eyesore on the pristine coastal belt will be to the detriment of any endeavours. For those visitors requiring more sophisticated forms of entertainment, I suggest they holiday elsewhere Obviously developers require a good return on their investment, but this should not be at the expense of the residents and the very happy holidaymakers that make Struisbaai their home through the year Every day one reads in the press of more and more cases of corruption and dishonesty being uncovered in Government and top flight business, what example does this set for our youth, do we want our Country to become another Somalia To my opinion this development can cause a lot of problems for Struisbaai in the future. Regarding the proposed development and associated studies, reports and actions by Aurecon (environmental impact assessment consultants appointed by the developer): Please note the above objections are made due to the fact that I am a permanent resident with property located very close to erf 848. Disagree. Please refer to the Chapter 1.2, 1.5 and 1.8 of the FEIR regarding the process followed. Aurecon, the appointed Environmental Assessment Practitioner is an independent consultant and is governed by the National Environmental Management Act (R. 385) with regard to undertaking this EIA. Aurecon has no financial gain from this development going ahead. Noted. Please refer to Sections 5.2.4 and 5.2.5 of the FEIR. Noted. Please refer to the FEIR which addresses comments raised during the review of the DEIR. Noted. The proponent has the right to develop Erf 848 (private property). Due consideration for the needs of the public have been considered and in the context of this proposed development that 2 – 4 storey alternative (Alternative 6) has been assessed as the preferred alternative. All the necessary legal requirements and procedures are being followed to ensure that the proposed development application is considered by the decision making authorities. Noted.
