There will not be a place to offload vessel catches from the ski boats or chukkies in the harbour area. A small token section of the development will not suffice to handle any significant quantities of fish when the catches are good and fishing are biting. As a property owner in the Overberg I think I have the right and duty to add my name to concerned Struisbaai citizens on this development. It looks like the developer is just want to make profit without abiding to the regulations. We should clean up our act and start living a life of integrity both on or personal and business dealings. The development seems be heavily filled with misleading information. Ignoring the strong opposition against this development would be problem. We're in a situation whereby the quest for personal gain and greed takes priority over all other considerations. I request that this development be reviewed and amended to fully comply with existing legislation and that transparent and full disclosure of all relevant information pertinent to this development be made available to all stakeholders and interested parties whose input must be recorded and taken into account before any final approval on the project is made. Please refer to Sections 5.2.6 and 5.2.7 of the FEIR. Please refer to Section 1.6.15 of this Comment and Response Report. Your point is noted. Other facilities may need to be developed to handle excess fish. Noted. Applicants response: We have the right to follow due process with integrity. The EIA reports endevour to share all pertinent information clearly and logicially with the proponent, the public and decisionmakers. All concerns have been noted and considered. Please refer to Annexure D & Volume 2 of the FEIR regarding comments received and considered. The assessment has been undertaken in accordance Section 24 (5) of NEMA and information regarding the EIA has been made available to ensure I&APs are afforded a opportunity to engage in the EIA. Falck (64) Should the developer have the traditional hotel usage in mind, it should be very similar to the hotel which used to be located next to Nostra, opposite the beach; however the proposed development is a far more upmarket hotel usage. Is this really necessary and will it not scar our coastline and the town‟s rural ambience forever? We do not want to have hotel where only rich people would have access to it. Furthermore, guests will be “encouraged” not to dispose of certain items into the sewage system, or to reduce the amount of water usage, etc, is simply not good enough. This cannot be guaranteed by the developer. I am sure that he will not be willing to take responsibility for this, and the “encouragement” is therefore of limited significance. Struisbaai is already experiencing severe economic pressure outside holiday periods when it is quiet. To now allow several restaurants, shops and similar activity to a town where economic pressure is already a concern, would worsen that. The hotel portion of the proposed development forms only a portion of the facilities that would be provided and therefore the functionality is envisaged to be more diversified that the traditional hotel concept. Please refer to Section 5.2.5 of the FEIR regarding the visual impact. Please refer to Annexure T for a copy of the mitigation measures that the proponent is willing to commit to. The EMP (Annexure Q) is a evolving document that can be amended to include various measures to ensure a reduced impact to the receiving environment. Please refer to Section 5.2.3 of the FEIR regarding the economic impact.
