The Entrance/Exit on the Kusweg Oos side of ERF 921 is also on a dangerous „blind‟ corner. The actual road surface on Kusweg Oos is not designed to withstand any additional amount of traffic. This road used to be a dirt road and was simply covered by tar. This is just another example of how „shallow‟ the planning for this development has been The proposed use of Erf 921 for parking to support this development has significant implications regarding current use (overflow temporary storage of boat trailers, particularly large ones that cannot be maneuvered within the harbour confines) as well as future commercial expansion potential of the harbour and therefore its future commercial viability. Please refer to the revised Section 5.2.2 of the FEIR. Erf 921 would only have one exit to Kusweg Oos.Regarding the condition of Kusweg Oos it is the CAM‟s responsibility to ensure that roads are properly designed and maintained, however the proponent may initially construct the roads required as per traffic Alternative 4. iCE Group: a) It is recommended that a raised pedestrian crossing should be provided at both entrances, as a continuation of the sidewalks. This should discourage through traffic and will improve pedestrian safety. b) The sight distance problem will be addressed through the provision of a threeway stop as shown on the plans. c) If that is the case, the road may have to be reconstructed. The development is expected to have minimal impact on the parking area and is attempting to improve the efficiency of the parking area. Tooke (67) Traffic Management Option 4 proposes using erf 921 for parking and buses, there are also intentions to open an additional access point to the existing erf 1394 harbour parking and to extend this harbour parking on the north side along Kusweg Noord. During holiday period, the traffic flow along Kusweg Noord is exceptionally high, and this has created a very dangerous situation for young children living in the houses along Kusweg Noord. A solution would be to close off Kusweg Noord at the harbour end to force the traffic using the harbour to use Harbour Road access only. This will vastly improve the safety of young children who walk/ cycle/ play along the Kusweg Noord. The schematic diagram in the summary indicates enlargement of the parking area on erf 1394, into what is presently fynbosrich public open space. The proposed routing of traffic via this parking area will result into chaos during high season when recreational fishermen maximally use the parking area for vehicles and trailers whose combined length exceeds 12 meters. It is likely for a dangerous traffic congestion to occur at the harbour. Please refer to Section 1.3.5 of this Comment and Response Report. Disagree, the schematic does not indicate public open parking extending into fynbos. The schematic only shows the boundary of the erf not that actual parking size.
