Lourens (23) D.G. & J.L. Falck (64) As a resident of Struisbaai, the proposed development does not fit with the character of Struisbaai harbour. The harbour is synonymous with Struisbaai. This type of development will destroy its character. I've lived with my family in Struisbaai near the harbour for the past 35 years and have been visiting Struisbaai for 42 years. During this time I have seen how unplanned and not well thought architecture have damaged Struisbaai‟s character The last characteristic buildings that was truly part of the new village, was the old hotel that was also demolished for new developments. The development is completely inappropriate when looking at Struisbaai‟s character. There is currently no building higher than two stories Struisbaai is not Cape Town and our photos indicate that the status quo should be kept or allow limited development as explained in our previous correspondence. I'm a taxpayer, and owns a house in Struisbaai. The development does not fit in with Struisbaai‟s development character. Nowhere are there buildings higher than two storeys. I have already submitted numerous complaints. The approval of the proposed development on Erf 848 Struisbaai cannot be supported. Not only will it have a negative impact on the town‟s quaint and rural character, but its economic sustainability and benefits are questionable. Should the development be approved, it will smack of a lack of responsibility towards the local community and it‟s long term negative consequences will fall on current and future residents. We are therefore of the view that this proposal should not be approved. Your concern is noted. Refer to Section 5.2.6 of the FEIR. High rise building will negatively affect the whole area. This must be a joke, since there is clearly no similarity whatsoever between the architecture of the proposed four-storey building and the tiny two-roomed homes of the indigenous fishers. Youldon, Johan Venter (59, 73, 69, 66, 65, 172, 93, 78) The proposed design of a Fishermen‟s cottage is not accurate, even in terms of scale, materials and proposed styles. It is composed of a mix of different styles and bears no relation to the proposed development. The architectural report then contradicts itself, mentions the contemporary style with flat roofs and there's no consistency in the architectural design. There's however a good example of a fisherman's cottage style right adjacent to the site on the Langezandt Estate. This harbour is still the place that is being used by children and parents for recreational purposes, and everyone loves the harbour for its quaint and pretty tranquility and is shared by all. If this is not a town‟s heritage, what is it then? Please refer to Section 1.7.117 of this Comment and Response Report regarding alternative sites.
