This harbour is one of the few remaining
unspoilt commercial harbours on our
coastline, it should not be changed.

Since when does a four storey building in
any way resemble a fisherman's cottage?
as stated on proposed design. The
statement that these fisherman's cottages
once existed is also incorrect, as they still
exist in the vicinity and are a trademark of
the Struisbaai area. Their attractiveness is
directly linked to their simplicity,
unobtrusiveness and the manner in which
they blend into the environment with their
single storeys, white washed walls and
thatched roofs. They do not have negative
visual impacts as the proposed
development.
Planning of the proposed building is poor
and will have a negative effect on
aesthetics. It would stick out like a sore
thumb in an area that has been developed
for many years as a unit. Even a two storey
building will impact negatively on aesthetics
– in our opinion this is very clear from the
photos and plans provided.
The proposed building would impact
negatively on the view of existing
properties. It might be wise to consult
judicature regarding this issue as the
Supreme High Court has shown to be
sensitive about the rights of established
residents, including rights associated with
aesthetics.

Stauch Vorster: Some elements of the
proposed building are based on the esthetics
of the fishermans cottage, not the physical
form. For instance the white washed walls and
the chimneys and the pitched roofs with gable
walls
