3.1 Categories of innovation processes
Innovation processes proceed in various manners thus there is not and will not be one proper scheme
of how to manage them. Despite that, some regularity was noticed in applied procedures and used
managing methods. These similarities arrange in groups linked with innovations that have similar
significance in company’s development perspective. Innovations which change already existing
products are realized in a different manner than those that result in new product or line of products
(Orawski, 2010). This correlation may be considered in the whole spectrum of management and other
criterion should be used to identify the categories of innovation processes. It has to be referred then
to managing aims of a particular innovation; that is why three categories of innovation processes were
distinguished related to management horizons for:
� innovation of current needs horizon connected with short term management goals
� innovation of potential development horizon connected with middle term management goals
� Innovation of new business creation connected with long term management goals.
