Veterans’ Credit<br />

Veterans of military service who qualify for admission<br />

are eligible for academic credit as a result of their<br />

military training and experience. The university follows<br />

the provisions of A Guide to the Evaluation of Education<br />

Experiences in the Armed Services in granting credit.<br />

Copies of official discharge or separation papers (DD-214)<br />

or transcripts must be submitted as a basis for granting<br />

credit. Evaluation of service credit is administered by the<br />

Office of Admissions.<br />

familiarize themselves with requirements for placement<br />

examinations in world languages and sciences, and for<br />

exemption or advanced placement in other subjects.<br />

Specific programs are recommended for students who<br />

require further instruction in reading, mathematics, and<br />

writing, as well as more general collegiate study skills.<br />

International students seeking admission to IU <strong>South</strong><br />

AUDIT STUDENTS<br />

Individuals wishing to attend a course without earning<br />

credit must contact the registrar’s office for information<br />

on audit policies, procedures, and regulations.<br />

The university conducts orientation sessions for all<br />

entering freshmen and transfer students at which students<br />

are assigned an advisor; receive general information<br />

about the university and its policies, academic counseling<br />

and program planning assistance; and register for classes.<br />

There is also a special orientation session designed for<br />

parents and guests. Detailed information on orientation<br />

programs is sent to all admitted students prior to their<br />

first session. A one-time new student enrollment fee is<br />

assessed to all entering students.<br />

Prior to orientation and registration, all students<br />

entering the university for the first time are assessed in<br />

mathematics, English, and reading. The results of these<br />

assessment tests are critical in placing each student at<br />

the proper course level in mathematics, English, and<br />

reading classes and ensuring the best chance of success<br />

in these basic courses. In addition, students should<br />

The primary mission of the Office of the Registrar is to<br />

ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of student<br />

academic records at IU <strong>South</strong> <strong>Bend</strong>. The specific<br />

responsibilities of the office are to plan and implement<br />

registration for classes, to coordinate the course<br />

schedule, to schedule academic space, to compile and<br />

maintain the academic record, to provide transcripts of<br />

the academic record to appropriate persons, to certify<br />

enrollment status, to process withdrawals from the<br />

university, to assist with degree audit technology, and to<br />

interpret the various academic policies and procedures<br />

of the university. The office provides services to students,<br />

faculty, administration, and the general public.<br />

Student, staff, and faculty picture identification (ID)<br />

cards are available Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.–<br />

5:30 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., in the Gateway<br />

Information Center. There is no charge for the first<br />

photo ID. Another form of photo ID must be presented to<br />

obtain a student ID card. Replacement IDs are $10 each.<br />

Students need an IU <strong>South</strong> <strong>Bend</strong> picture ID to utilize<br />

many of the services at the university.
