e. All applicants whose undergraduate degrees are<br />

more than ten years old must take two sections<br />

of the GRE. The applicant must earn a score of at<br />

least 450 on the Verbal Reasoning and at least a<br />

3.5 on the Analytical Writing sections of the GRE<br />

to be eligible for admission.<br />

• Complete an interview with program faculty.<br />

• Must obtain a recommendation from their corporation<br />

superintendent or the educational leadership program<br />

coordinator.<br />

• Complete an interview with department head.<br />

ADMISSION PROCEDURES<br />

• Visit www.iusb.edu/apply to complete the IU <strong>South</strong><br />

<strong>Bend</strong> graduate application online.<br />

• Provide two letters of recommendations.<br />

• Submit a written statement of your teaching philosophy<br />

of educating students with special needs.<br />

• Answer the following four questions (up to one typewritten<br />

page per question):<br />

a. How do you think children and youth learn?<br />

b. What is the value and purpose of special education?<br />

c. Describe your comfort level with technology. What<br />

types of technology do you use daily? When you<br />

have difficulty with technology, what do you do?<br />

d. Discuss the importance of collaboration<br />

between educational professionals, parents, and<br />

community organizations.<br />

• Provide official transcripts from all graduate and<br />

undergraduate institutions attended. Degrees must be<br />

earned from a regionally accredited institution or an<br />

IU approved international institution.<br />

a. Applicants to graduate programs in the School of<br />

Education must have an overall CGPA of 3.000 or<br />

have earned a CGPA of 3.000 in the last 60 hours<br />

of their undergraduate degree and meet all other<br />

admission requirements to be fully admitted to<br />

graduate programs in the School of Education.<br />

b. Applicants whose CGPAs are between 2.500 and<br />

2.999 must earn required GRE scores and meet<br />

all other admissions requirements to be fully<br />

admitted to programs in the School of Education.<br />

c. Applicants with undergraduate CGPAs between<br />

2.500 and 2.999 will not be allowed to take any<br />

graded graduate course work until they have<br />

submitted the required GRE scores and met all<br />

other admissions requirements.<br />

d. Applicants whose undergraduate CGPAs are<br />

between 2.500 and 2.999 may take S/F graded<br />

graduate workshops before being fully admitted.<br />

These S/F graded workshops will not fulfill<br />

degree requirements.<br />

e. All applicants whose undergraduate degrees are<br />

more than ten years old must take two sections<br />

• Submit passing scores on the Praxis I®: Reading,<br />

Mathematics, and Writing prior to completion of the<br />

ADMISSION TO SCHOOL OF EDUCATION LICENSURE<br />

PROGRAMS—transition to teaching<br />

The Transition to Teaching (T2T) Program at IU <strong>South</strong><br />

<strong>Bend</strong> is an alternative route-to-licensure program<br />

designed for mid-career professionals with a bachelor’s<br />

degree who want to become licensed teachers in the state<br />

of <strong>Indiana</strong>. The rigorous, field-based program is most<br />

appropriate for mid-career changers. To participate in<br />

the program, applicants must meet minimum GPA and<br />

bachelor’s degree requirements as well as additional<br />

admission requirements.<br />

Beyond the basic admission requirements, applicants<br />

will be screened on their knowledge base including<br />

appropriateness of their original bachelor’s degree<br />

program.<br />

The program is offered when there are an adequate<br />

number of qualified cohort candidates who commit to<br />

Secondary Transition to Teaching<br />

IU <strong>South</strong> <strong>Bend</strong> is approved by the Office of Educator<br />

Licensing and Development to recommend for licensure<br />

in the following content areas: mathematics; English;<br />

foreign language (French, Spanish, and German);<br />

social studies (historical perspectives, government<br />

and citizenship, geographical perspectives, economics,<br />

psychology, and sociology); science (life science, Earth/<br />

space science, physical science, physics, and chemistry).<br />

IU <strong>South</strong> <strong>Bend</strong> is not approved to recommend licensure<br />

in any other areas. The Secondary T2T Program licenses<br />

at the early adolescence and adolescent/young adult<br />

developmental levels.<br />

Most appropriate are majors directly linked to licensure<br />

areas listed above. Those with closely related majors<br />

may require some additional content course work to<br />

meet licensure requirements prior to applying to the T2T<br />

Program. Those with other majors will need significant<br />

hours in content course work to meet licensure<br />

requirements.
