jazz piano class (1 cr.)<br />

This course is designed for the elementary<br />

pianist to provide a foundation in basic<br />

jazz piano harmony. Each class will<br />

include the learning of a theoretical<br />

concept, plus the application of that<br />

concept through playing. There are<br />

listening examples given throughout the<br />

course as well as listening assignments<br />

which represent some of the important<br />

jazz piano players of the last 50 years of<br />

the twentieth century.<br />

jazz piano class 2 (1 cr.)<br />

This course is designed as the second in<br />

a series of two courses for the elementary<br />

pianist, to study more advanced harmony,<br />

adding the element of improvisation.<br />

Each class will include the learning of a<br />

theoretical concept, plus the application<br />

of that concept through playing.<br />

String Class Techniques 1 (2 cr.)<br />

Elements of playing and teaching the<br />

string instruments. Techniques of string<br />

class teaching.<br />

Brass Instrument Techniques (2 cr.)<br />

Class instruction and teaching methods<br />

for trumpet, French horn, trombone, and<br />

tuba.<br />

Woodwind Techniques (2 cr.)<br />

Class instruction and teaching methods<br />

for flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, and<br />

bassoon.<br />

Percussion Techniques (2 cr.)<br />

Timpani, snare drum, xylophone, bass<br />

drum, cymbals, Afro-Indo-Latin and<br />

jazz drums, etc. Laboratory class with<br />

emphasis on teaching techniques.<br />

Marching Band Techniques (2 cr.)<br />

P: Consent of instructor. For undergraduates<br />

and graduates majoring in music education.<br />

Techniques for organizing and training<br />

marching bands in public schools and at<br />

the college level. Planning and charting<br />

football shows; rehearsal problems.<br />

Study of the art and techniques of choral<br />

conducting as related to a study of the<br />

score. Major works from the choral and<br />
