NURS-B 304 professional nursing seminar 1:<br />

Health Policy (3 cr.)<br />

P: R.N.-B.S.N. student. This course<br />

focuses on core theoretical concepts of<br />

professional nursing practice, including<br />

health, wellness, illness, self-care and<br />

caring, disease prevention, and health<br />

promotion. Students are expected<br />

to explore theoretical premises and<br />

research related to the unique wellness<br />

perspectives and health beliefs of people<br />

across the life span in developing care<br />

outcomes consistent with maximizing<br />

individual potentials for wellness.<br />

Students complete a needs assessment as<br />

GERONTOLOGICAL nursing (3 cr.)<br />

(Nursing Elective)<br />

P: Sophomore-level courses. This course<br />

is designed to promote a holistic approach<br />

to persons in the later years of life,<br />

focusing on the continued development<br />

of older adults and the normal aging<br />

process. Within the nursing process<br />

there is emphasis on health promotion,<br />

maintenance, and restoration. The course<br />

includes special assignments with older<br />

adults.<br />

NURS-B 404 professional nursing seminar 2:<br />

Informatics (2-3 cr.)<br />

P: NURS-B 304. This course focuses<br />

on the application of nursing theory<br />

and research findings in restoring and<br />

maintaining individual and family<br />

functioning for those dealing with multisystem<br />

alterations. Students explore the<br />

ethical, legal, and moral implications of<br />

treatment options and identify tactics<br />

to maximize nursing’s effectiveness<br />

in facilitating individuals and families<br />

through the health care system. Students<br />

complete a scholarly analysis as part of<br />

This course enables students to develop<br />

Enables the F.N.P. student to develop a<br />

practice base for clinical decision making<br />

includes identification of health needs,<br />

nursing interventions for the prevention<br />

of illness, and health promotion.<br />

ALTERATIONS IN NEURO-PSYCHOLOGICAL<br />

HEALTH (3 cr.)<br />

P: SPCH-S 121 and all sophomorelevel<br />

courses. C: NURS-H 352. This<br />

course focuses on individuals and<br />

small groups experiencing acute and<br />

chronic neuropsychological disorders.<br />

Content includes the effect of the<br />

brain-body disturbances on health<br />

functioning. Other content areas are<br />

growth and development, stress, mental<br />

status, nurse-client relationships,<br />

psychopharmacology, and nursing<br />

approaches for clients experiencing DSM-<br />

IV neuropsychological disorders. I, II
