The department offers courses in physics, astronomy, and<br />

geology; serving three broad groups of students: those<br />

majoring in physics with plans either to enter graduate<br />

school in physics, astronomy, or a related field, or to make a<br />

career in industry; those majoring in other natural sciences,<br />

science education, or engineering technology; and those<br />

majoring in nontechnical disciplines who wish to learn<br />

some physical science.<br />

Students interested in pursuing an engineering degree can<br />

begin their studies at IU <strong>South</strong> <strong>Bend</strong> in this department. A<br />

dual-degree program, under which a student can earn both<br />

a Bachelor of Science in Physics from IU <strong>South</strong> <strong>Bend</strong> and<br />

a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from a cooperating<br />

institution in at least three years of study at IU <strong>South</strong> <strong>Bend</strong><br />

and at least two years of study at the cooperating institution,<br />

is described below.<br />
