4.7 City Council shall endeavour to,
(a) maintain an interconnected system of
sidewalks and walkways within the urban
area; and
(b) pursue and maintain an interconnected
system of trails and bikeways within the
urban and rural areas, consistent with the
approved Pickering Trails and Bikeway
Master Plan, including connections to the
Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail, the Seaton
Hiking Trail, the Oak Ridges Moraine, the
Downtown Core, the GO Transit station,
abutting municipalities and other important
destinations.

4.8 City Council shall consider the needs of the
physically challenged in the design and
operation of its transportation system.

4.9 City Council shall consider the following as
priority connections, and shall endeavour to
ensure their early implementation,

(a) a continuous Pickering Waterfront Trail
adjacent, wherever feasible, to Lake
Ontario, as part of the Lake Ontario
Waterfront Trail system;
(b) a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists over
Highway 401 linking the Downtown Core
and the GO Transit Station; and
(c) a continuous bikeway across Pickering
along the south side of the proposed
Highway 407/Transitway.
