8.3 <strong>City</strong> Council shall,<br />

(a) assist in identifying, protecting and<br />

promoting cultural heritage resources<br />

in the municipality, in co-operation<br />

with Federal, Provincial and Regional<br />

levels <strong>of</strong> government, as well as private<br />

agencies and individuals;<br />

(b) consult with its local architectural<br />

conservation advisory committee and<br />

other heritage committees, and<br />

participate with these committees and<br />

others in protecting important heritage<br />

resources, as necessary, through<br />

assembling, resale, public-private<br />

partnerships, acquisition or other forms<br />

<strong>of</strong> involvement;<br />

(c) ensure that plans, programs and<br />

strategies prepared by or for the <strong>City</strong><br />

and its boards or commissions, shall<br />

respect the character and significance<br />

<strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong>’s heritage resources; and<br />

(d) use and encourage the use <strong>of</strong> available<br />

government and non-government<br />

funding and programs to assist in<br />

cultural heritage resource conservation.<br />

Co-operation with Others<br />

<strong>City</strong> Council has appointed a<br />

heritage committee, known<br />

locally as Heritage <strong>Pickering</strong>.<br />

Under the Ontario Heritage<br />

Act, the committee is known as<br />

a Local Architectural<br />

Conservation Advisory<br />

Committee (LACAC).<br />

8.4 <strong>City</strong> Council, in consultation with its<br />

heritage committee, where warranted shall<br />

implement the provisions <strong>of</strong> the Ontario<br />

Heritage Act, including the designation<br />

under the Act <strong>of</strong> heritage sites and<br />

heritage districts.<br />

8.5 <strong>City</strong> Council, in association with its<br />

heritage committee, shall,<br />

(a) develop programs for promoting<br />

public awareness and appreciation <strong>of</strong><br />

cultural heritage resources, and in<br />

doing so shall consider,<br />

(i) preparing and distributing heritage<br />

information through libraries,<br />

schools, displays, information<br />

booths and local events;<br />
