5.6 <strong>City</strong> Council shall maintain an up-to-date<br />

Economic Strategic <strong>Plan</strong>, and in so doing<br />

shall,<br />

(a) identify emerging trends in business<br />

and industry (including the agricultural<br />

industry) and assessing the implications<br />

on <strong>Pickering</strong>;<br />

(b) monitor the results, initiatives and<br />

actions recommended by the <strong>Plan</strong> and<br />

making revisions where necessary; and<br />

(c) amend the provisions <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />

plan, zoning by-laws, and other<br />

corporate documents in accordance<br />

with the Strategic <strong>Plan</strong>.<br />

5.7 <strong>City</strong> Council shall encourage, and where<br />

possible assist utility companies, the<br />

Province, the development industry and<br />

others to establish a high speed, broad<br />

band telecommunications network that<br />

links, over time, all homes, businesses,<br />

institutions and facilities across the <strong>City</strong><br />

and the Greater Toronto Area, and allows<br />

for information, knowledge and skills to be<br />

widely shared and disseminated.<br />

speed, broad band<br />

telecommunications network<br />

helps promote home<br />

occupations, teleworking,<br />

telecommuting, and improved<br />

community networking and<br />
