(ii) may permit minor additions,<br />

replacement structures, property<br />

improvements, minor infilling and<br />

ancillary uses related to existing<br />

development;<br />

(iii) shall permit works required for flood<br />

and erosion control, conservation<br />

purposes, and where appropriate,<br />

stormwater management; and<br />

(iv) may permit alterations to a<br />

watercourse or stream corridor,<br />

including the placement <strong>of</strong> fill<br />

(whether originating on the site or<br />

elsewhere), or the removal <strong>of</strong> fill, or<br />

the provision <strong>of</strong> access to the valley,<br />

only following the appropriate<br />

approvals <strong>of</strong> the relevant<br />

conservation authority and the<br />

Ministry <strong>of</strong> Natural Resources, if<br />

necessary.<br />

Flood Plain Special Policy Areas<br />

10.20 <strong>City</strong> Council recognizes that certain<br />

communities within the <strong>City</strong> have developed<br />

on lands susceptible to flooding, and<br />

acknowledges the continued viability <strong>of</strong> these<br />

areas; accordingly, Council shall,<br />

(a) designate Flood Plain Special Policy<br />

Areas to increase awareness <strong>of</strong> these<br />

communities (see Schedule III); and<br />

(b) despite section 10.19, permit development,<br />

including the rehabilitation <strong>of</strong>, and<br />

extension to, existing buildings and<br />

structures within Flood Plain Special<br />

Policy Areas, provided appropriate flood<br />

protection measures are instituted<br />

(see section 15.31).<br />

CITY POLICY<br />

Pollution, Contamination and<br />

Waste Disposal Sites<br />

10.21 <strong>City</strong> Council recognizes the potentially<br />

serious impacts <strong>of</strong> pollution, contamination<br />

and waste disposal sites on the community;<br />

accordingly, Council shall,<br />

(a) oppose the establishment <strong>of</strong> any new<br />

landfill sites in <strong>Pickering</strong> serving the<br />

needs <strong>of</strong> people and businesses living or<br />

operating outside <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong>;<br />

(b) prohibit new or expanded waste disposal<br />

sites without amendment to this <strong>Plan</strong>;<br />
