CITY POLICY<br />

Resource Management Objectives<br />

10.2 <strong>City</strong> Council shall,<br />

(a) identify natural features and areas to be<br />

protected and enhanced, and risk areas<br />

requiring special attention;<br />

(b) protect and enhance important natural<br />

features and areas, and maintain a system<br />

<strong>of</strong> core areas, corridors and linkages;<br />

(c) protect people and property from<br />

environmental hazards;<br />

(d) encourage the managed use and<br />

conservation <strong>of</strong> natural resources, and<br />

encourage public and private conservation<br />

efforts;<br />

(e) promote the use <strong>of</strong> renewable energy<br />

sources and encourage reduced<br />

consumption <strong>of</strong> non-renewable energy<br />

sources;<br />

(f) co-ordinate with other levels <strong>of</strong><br />

government, public and private agencies,<br />

and other groups to identify, research,<br />

protect, and manage the <strong>City</strong>’s natural<br />

resources, and institute regular<br />

environmental monitoring and reporting;<br />

and<br />

(g) involve the public, business-people,<br />

landowners, relevant public agencies,<br />

and other interested groups and<br />

individuals in resource management<br />

decisions affecting the <strong>City</strong>.<br />

CITY POLICY<br />

Land Stewardship<br />

10.3 <strong>City</strong> Council shall encourage public and<br />

private practices that protect important<br />

natural features and landscapes in their<br />

natural state, including,<br />

(a) assisting conservation authorities in the<br />

preparation and implementation <strong>of</strong><br />

watershed plans;<br />

(b) promoting and, where appropriate,<br />

assisting in the rehabilitation and<br />

restoration <strong>of</strong> degraded landscapes;<br />

(c) encouraging naturalized vegetated<br />

buffers adjacent to significant natural<br />

features, including watercourses, valley<br />

edges, wetlands, and woodlots;<br />

(d) implementing soil erosion controls such<br />

as: Topsoil and Fill By-laws; construction<br />

practices which minimize the exposure <strong>of</strong><br />

soil to the elements; and soil conserving<br />

agricultural practices; and<br />
