CITY POLICY<br />

Scarborough Initiatives<br />

4.16 <strong>City</strong> Council shall request the assistance <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> Scarborough as follows,<br />

(a) in continuing to oppose a road connection<br />

between Lawrence Avenue in Scarborough<br />

and Bayly Street in <strong>Pickering</strong>;<br />

(b) in continuing to oppose a road connection<br />

between Finch Avenue in Scarborough<br />

and Finch Avenue-Rossland Road in<br />

<strong>Pickering</strong>; and<br />

(c) in maintaining Twyn Rivers Drive and<br />

Finch Avenue as local roads in<br />

Scarborough through the Rouge Park, and<br />

encouraging that any required road or<br />

bridge improvements along these roads be<br />

done within the existing rights-<strong>of</strong>-way and<br />

on the existing alignments.<br />

Environmental Assessments to<br />

Determine Alignments <strong>of</strong><br />

Proposed Roads<br />

4.17 <strong>City</strong> Council recognizes that the alignments<br />

<strong>of</strong> proposed new roads, the upgrading <strong>of</strong><br />

roads to match identified classifications, and<br />

the locations <strong>of</strong> other proposed transportation<br />

features (such as freeway interchanges,<br />

underpasses or overpasses, Go Rail service<br />

and Go Transit Stations) shown on Schedule<br />

II to this <strong>Plan</strong> may require approvals under<br />

other legislation including the Environmental<br />

Assessment Act; to this end, Council shall,<br />

(a) undertake or request the others having<br />

jurisdiction to undertake the required<br />

Environmental Assessment in an<br />

appropriate and timely manner; and<br />

(b) if necessary, revise Schedule II to reflect<br />

approved alignments, classifications and<br />

facility locations following completion <strong>of</strong><br />

the required Environmental Assessment.<br />

CITY POLICY<br />

Provincial Highways<br />

In <strong>Pickering</strong>, the<br />

provincial Ministry <strong>of</strong><br />

Transportation has<br />

jurisdiction over<br />

Highways 401 and 7 and<br />

the proposed<br />

Highway 407/Transitway.<br />

4.18 <strong>City</strong> Council recognizes that the Ministry <strong>of</strong><br />

Transportation has jurisdiction over the<br />

provincial highways through the <strong>City</strong>, and as<br />

such, acknowledges that the Ministry has the<br />

responsibility for standards, design criteria<br />

(including intersection/interchange spacing<br />

and locations) and widening requirements<br />

respecting those highways.<br />
