VICTUALLING AND CHECKING, ETC., IN SHIPS AND
ESTABLISHMENTS.
With reference to Navy Order No. 262/1920, attention is again drawn to
the numerous instances of " back victualling " and " back checking " which
now occur, more particularly in connexion with the victualling of Officers,
and Commanding Officers are to take the necessary steps to ensure that such
adjustments are reduced to a minimum in future.
2. It has also been observed that the number on Ships' Books is frequently
omitted either in the Mess Book or on the Victualling and Check Sheets.
This information is essential to expedite the audit of accounts in office, and
steps are to be taken to cause the Ship's Books, number and rating invariably
to be inserted in future.
(S. 432/1/5.)
SUPPLY NOTES FOR VICTUALLING STORES—TO BE RETAINED
IN H.M.A. SHIPS AND ESTABLISHMENTS.
In future Supply Notes for Victualling Stores are to be retained in H.M.A.
Ships' and Establishments concerned, for reference in the event of queries
arising when accounts are audited in Office.
(S. 465/4/3.)
DISPOSAL OF OBSOLETE AND UNSERVICEABLE STORES IN SHD7S,
SHORE ESTABLISHMENTS AND DRILL ROOMS.
Before reports of survey of unserviceable and obsolete stores in Naval
Reserve Districts are transmitted to the Naval Board, District Naval Officers
are to ensure that full description of stores and their condition, together with
other particulars required by the established form (R.A.N.R. 46—Report of
Survey), are inserted.
2. It is desirable that such articles as empty packing cases, casks (whether
in good condition or otherwise) and condemned articles of no Service value
be disposed of locally, and to enable a ready decision as to disposal to be
arrived at by the Naval Board, having regard to the recommendation of the
Board of Survey in each instance, it is essential that the particulars referred
to be invariably supplied when reports of survey are first submitted for
approval.
3. As no satisfactory means of disposing of unserviceable and obsolete
stores at Royal Australian Naval College and Flinders Naval Depot exist,
Commanding Officers of these Establishments are requested to take every
opportunity to return by free freight such stores to Store Officers at Sydney.
As regards victualling stores coming under this heading, attention is invited
to Navy Order No. 131/1921.
4. Commanding Officers of H.M.A. Ships are to continue to deal with
unserviceable and obsolete stores as laid down in existing regulations or
instructions.
(S. 450/1/38.)
