FIRE EXTINGUISHERS FOR MOTOR BOATS.<br />

With, reference to Consolidated <strong>Navy</strong> Orders, Article 124, it has been<br />

decided to supply "Pyrene " fire extinguishers for use in motor boats in future<br />

in lieu of the " Merryweather " C.T.C. hand fire pump.<br />

2. Arrangements will be made by the Naval Store Officer, Sydney, for<br />

the " Pyrene " extinguisher to be stocked in future.<br />

RETENTION OF SENNET HATS.<br />

With reference to <strong>Navy</strong> Order No. 288/1921, supplies of Sun Helmets<br />

are not yet available for issue in accordance with the amended Admiralty<br />

procedure.<br />

2. The sennet hat is, therefore, to be retainer! as a compulsory article of<br />

kit for Class II. ratings until further notice.<br />

SPECIAL PACKING CASE FOR CLOTHING.<br />

A new pattern packing case for Clothing will shortly be issued from <strong>Royal</strong><br />

Edward Victualling Yard. It will be described on the Supply Note as " Case,<br />

Special," and is to be taken on charge in the Clothing Account at the Victualling<br />

Yard, on board H.M.A. Ships, and at Naval Establishments, in a<br />

separate column headed " Cases, Special." It is to be accounted for by H.M.A.<br />

Ships and Naval Establishments only by return to the Victualling Yard.<br />

The case is to be opened by cutting the iron bands on one side, and, when<br />

emptied, the lid is to be replaced, the bands renailed, and the case and lid<br />

returned to the Yard. On no account are nails to be driven into the lids of<br />

these cases.<br />

2. The bands of the case will be in one piece, the ends being joined with<br />

two tinned rivets, and if there are any other joins in the bands or the riveted<br />

end is not intact, it should be considered that the case has been tampered with,<br />

and the Shipping Company, or the Commanding Officer of H.M.A. Ship or<br />

Fleet Auxiliary carrying the goods, should be called upon for survey before<br />

delivery is accepted. This procedure should also be followed in the port of<br />

Sydney when delivery is made direct from the Victualling Yard.<br />

3. Opportunity is to be taken of free freight for transport of these cases<br />

when ready for return to <strong>Royal</strong> Edward Victualling Yard.- When H.M.A.<br />

ships are in port at Sydney, the cases should be emptied as early as convenient,<br />

and returned to the Victualling Yard as expeditiously as possible, and in all<br />

instances where practicable prior to departure from the port. Unless specially<br />

directed, these special cases are not to be returned to the Victualling Yard from<br />

out-ports by ordinary freight ship.<br />

INDIARUBBER GLOVES FOR PLUMBERS.<br />

As already notified in <strong>Navy</strong> Order No. 430/1921, in accordance with the<br />

recommendation of the Lower Deck Welfare Committee 1921, approval has<br />

been given for two pairs indiarubber gloves, pattern 400, to be supplied to<br />

each Ship and Establishment for use of plumbers working on W.C.'s used<br />

by V.D. patients. Supply will be made by Naval Store Officer, Sydney,<br />

without demand.<br />

2. These articles are to be added to Shipwright's Establishment of Naval<br />

Stores, warrants being noted accordingly.<br />

PURCHASE OF BENZINE.<br />

The Commonwealth Stores Supply and Tender Board has entered into<br />

an agreement with the Vacuum Oil Company for the supply of Benzine at<br />

the undermentioned rates as from 12th November, 1921.<br />

2. Unless Naval Board approval has been obtained for the use of any<br />

other brand, supplies of Benzine required for Naval purposes are to be<br />

obtained under this agreement.<br />

3. " Plume " Motor Spirit is to be supplied for the Governor-General's<br />

motor boat Express, Wireless Station, Garden Island, and motor vehicles,<br />

and " Mercury " Benzine for other motor boats and H.M.A. Ships.<br />
