EXAMINATION FOR THE RANK OF PAYMASTER<br />
LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER.<br />
An examination for the rank of Paymaster Lieutenant-Commander<br />
will be held during the month of July, 1922.<br />
2. Officers who desire to sit for this examination should forward their<br />
applications so as to reach <strong>Navy</strong> Office by 1st July, 1922. When forwarding<br />
applications Officers should specify the " Foreign Language " they desire<br />
to take at the examination.<br />

SHIELDS PRESENTED FOR COMPETITION AMONGST THE SENIOR<br />
NAVAL CADETS IN THE COMMONWEALTH NAVAL FORCES.<br />
With reference to <strong>Navy</strong> Order No. 10/1921, the conditions of the competitions<br />
for the two Shields presented by the <strong>Australian</strong> Steam-ship Owners'<br />
Federation and the <strong>Australian</strong> Natives' Association have been further<br />
revised, and are now as shown hereunder.<br />
2. <strong>Navy</strong> Order No. 10/1921 is hereby cancelled, and Appendix IV. of<br />
the Regulations and Instructions for the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>Australian</strong> Naval Reserve,<br />
1922, is to be amended accordingly.<br />
CONDITIONS OF COMPETITIONS.<br />
(a) <strong>Australian</strong> Steamship Owners' Federation Shield :••—<br />
, 1. The teams competing for this Shield will be selected by the<br />
Sub-District Naval Officer, and will consist of ten Cadets, five of whom<br />
are to belong to the Signal Branch, and five to the Wireless Branch.<br />
Age limit, between 15 and 18 years.<br />
2. Each Sub-District will separately compete for this Shield, and<br />
only one team from any Sub-District may compete in any one year.<br />
3. All members of a team must have been assessed as " Efficient "<br />
throughout their previous service.<br />
4. The Sub-District winning the Shield is to retain the Shield for<br />
the ensuing twelve months until it has been won for the following<br />
year. The Shield shall be kept in the Sub-District Drill Room.<br />
5. The competition may be held at any time during the training<br />
year, provided that six months shall elapse between any two competitions.<br />
6. The competition in a Sub-District shall be carried out under<br />
the supervision of three Officers detailed by the D.N.R.M. ; these<br />
three Officers will be the judges, and their decision shall be final.<br />
7. The tests for the competition shall be arranged as directed by<br />
the D.N.R.M.<br />

8. The standard to be used in the tests is that of an Ordinary<br />
Signalman and Ordinary Telegraphist.<br />
9. Statements showing the points awarded to the competing teams<br />
shall be signed by the three judges, and forwarded to the D.N.R.M.<br />
10. At the end of each year, the D.N.R.M. will promulgate the<br />
results for the competition for the year.<br />
11. Points will be awarded in accordance with the following :—<br />

(b) <strong>Australian</strong> Natives' Association Shield :—<br />
1. The teams competing for this Shield will be selected by the<br />
Sub-District Naval Officer, and will consist of ten Cadets who are,<br />
or were, in the " General Service " Branch during their second year<br />
of Cadet training. Age limit, between 15 and 18 years of age.<br />
2. Each Sub-District will separately compete for this Shield,<br />
and only one team from any one Sub-District may compete in any<br />
one year.<br />
3. All members of a team must have been assessed as " Efficient "<br />
throughout their previous service.<br />
4. The Sub-District winning the Shield is to retain the Shield<br />
for the ensuing twelve months until it has been won for the following<br />
year. The Shield shall be kept at the Sub-District Drill Room.
