R.N. OFFICERS- SPECIAL TERMS OF RETIREMENT.<br />

With reference to <strong>Navy</strong> Orders Nos. 175 and 221 of 1922, information<br />

has been received from the Admiralty that Gratuities payable to R.N. Officers<br />

on retirement, under the provisions of Admiralty Fleet Order No. 1358/1922,<br />

are not subject to the payment of Imperial Income Tax.<br />

P.& R.T. INSTRUCTORS QUALIFYING AND RE-QUALIFYING<br />

COURSES FOR.<br />

Qualifying and re-qualifying Courses for P. & R.T. Instructors will,<br />

in future, be carried out in Australia, in conjunction with the Military<br />

Authorities.<br />

2. Candidates to qualify as P. & R.T. Instructor will be selected from<br />

Petty Officers and Leading Seamen passed for the rating of Petty Officer,<br />

who volunteer and are recommended to so qualify. Each candidate must<br />

be prepared to re-engage for a period of seven years before undergoing the<br />

Course, or have at least a period of seven years to serve before completing<br />

his existing engagement.<br />

3. Reports, on Form A.S. 1303, accompanied by Service Certificates,<br />

of ratings volunteering and recomme*ded to qualify as P. & R.T. Instructor<br />

should be forwarded forthwith, direct to the Captain Superintendent of<br />

Training, Flinders Naval Depot, by all Ships and Establishments.<br />

4. Blank Returns are required.<br />

forwarded to the Naval Store Officer, Sydney.<br />

3. <strong>Navy</strong> Orders Nos. 191/1919 and 138/1921, laying down previous<br />

establishments, are hereby cancelled.<br />

SERVICE BAGGAGE—EXCESS LUGGAGE WARRANTS.<br />

A new form of Excess Luggage Warrant in book form has been adopted<br />

for general use in H.M.A. Ships, Naval Establishments, and Offices. Each<br />

book contains one hundred warrants. A first supply of one book will be made<br />

without demand to each Ship, Establishment, and Office, and demands for<br />

future supplies should be made on the Director of <strong>Navy</strong> Accounts. On<br />

receipt of the new forms the stock of Excess Luggage Warrants previously<br />

on hand is to be regarded as obsolete, and same destroyed.<br />

2. Each person travelling with baggage by rail on a Railway Warrant<br />

granted at Government expense, is to be issued with necessary Excess Luggage<br />

Warrant at the same time as the Railway Warrant is supplied. The butt<br />

of each Warrant is to be entered up as an independent check against the<br />

claim from the Railway Department when received.
