COMMISSIONING OF R.A.F.A. " KURUMBA."
R.A.F.A. Kurumba commissioned temporarily on 5th May, with a R.A.N.
crew, as tender to H.M.A.S. Penguin, under the command of Lieutenant-
Commander Frederick C. Plater, R.D., R.A.N.R.
2. All correspondence relating to Officers and Men forming the Ship's
Company of H.M.A.S. Kurumba whilst in commission should be addressed
to the Commanding Officer H.M.A.S. Penguin (through C.S.O.I.) ; other
correspondence for the ship should be addressed direct to the Commanding
Officer, a copy being sent to OS.G.I. for information.

PORT DIVISIONS OF RATINGS.
The attention of all ratings is drawn to the necessity of requesting that
their Port Division should be that nearest to their homes.
2. Cases are continually arising of ratings who on their marriage set up
a home and neglect to request that their Port Division should be altered as
necessary. This neglect nullifies to a large extent the efforts of the Drafting
Office to insure that other things being equal ratings are drafted to Ships
based, or Establishments, near their homes.

CANDIDATES FOR ENTRY DJTO THE R.A.N.— LEAVE PRIOR
TO FINAL ENTRY.
Cases have recently occurred in which recruits who had been sent to Sydney
or Melbourne for final Medical Examination, and were granted leave prior
to final entry, failed to appear again at the Depot. In consequence, unnecessary
expense in connexion with their passage to Sydney or Melbourne was
incurred.
2. Candidates received at Sydney or Melbourne for final Medical Examination
should not be granted leave of absence until they have been finally
entered in the R.A.N.
